My HVAC Hobby

About Me

My HVAC Hobby

Hello, my name is Nigel and I live in New South Wales with my partner and our three kids. I am really interested in HVAC systems. It isn't my job or anything, I just got interested in it. My friends often poke fun at me because of my unusual hobby but I don't mind. It all started when I visited my friend who is an HVAC contractor. He was working on a unit and he started to explain how the different components worked together. I was fascinated and when I got home, I took the cover off my HVAC system and cleaned it out. Since then, I have started to maintain and repair HVAC systems for friends if they can't get hold of a professional. I decided to start this blog to help others.

Repair and Replacement Issues for Residential Air Conditioning

Many homeowners set aside a portion of money for emergencies and home repairs. One of the areas that are overlooked or underfunded is the HVAC system. The HVAC system in your home can have several, but common, repair issues. Here are a few of the repairs and issues your residential air conditioning system may have and what to know about each one.

Thermostat Replacement

One of the leading issues with a residential air conditioning system is the thermostat. If you begin noticing your system not turning on to heat or cool the home, it may be the thermostat. The thermostat detects the temperature in the home and signals the system to turn on at the designated temperatures you put in place. If it no longer detects the temperature properly, you will need to have the part replaced. Your HVAC technician can determine the right option for your system and replace the part. They can also make suggestions for possible upgrades, like smart and Wi-Fi connected thermostats and systems.

Outdoor Fan Repair

If you have a typical HVAC system, you will have a unit outside of your home. The unit has a large fan inside the enclosure. This fan can easily become blocked or damaged by weather and debris. When this happens, the motor can overheat causing the fan to no longer run properly. In most cases, your fan motor will need to be repaired or replaced. Once the motor is replaced, your fan may still need some repairs. This is especially true if falling debris damaged the fan blades and they need to be reformed. If the blades are too damaged, you will need to have the fan itself replaced as well.

Air Vent Cleaning and Repair

In some cases, it may not be a common part that needs replacing or repair. Your residential air conditioning unit may have issues heating or cooling properly because of an issue in the air vent and ductwork. Your technician can check your vents and ductwork for blockages and debris. They will clean out the system and check for any damages to the ductwork itself. Keep in mind, some debris in the ductwork can cause small rips or tears in the ducts and vents. These can be repaired to prevent energy leaks and keep your house at the proper temperature.

When you have one of these repair or part replacement issues, contact your local residential air conditioning repair technician. They can look at your HVAC system and determine which parts need repairing or replacement. They can also check for other issues that your system may have. If you are unsure about how to maintain your system through the year, consider asking about the maintenance plans the technician may offer.
