About Me

My HVAC Hobby

Hello, my name is Nigel and I live in New South Wales with my partner and our three kids. I am really interested in HVAC systems. It isn't my job or anything, I just got interested in it. My friends often poke fun at me because of my unusual hobby but I don't mind. It all started when I visited my friend who is an HVAC contractor. He was working on a unit and he started to explain how the different components worked together. I was fascinated and when I got home, I took the cover off my HVAC system and cleaned it out. Since then, I have started to maintain and repair HVAC systems for friends if they can't get hold of a professional. I decided to start this blog to help others.

3 Considerations When Installing A Hot Water System In Your Home

Imagine taking a cold shower in the middle of a cold winter? The mere thought of it is enough to send shivers down your spine. Hot water systems are more important than people think because of how much comfort they bring to your daily activities like dishwashing, bathing and brushing your teeth. Here are some considerations before you decide to install a hot water system in your home.

1. Consider Where You Intend To Install The System

Why invest in a hot water system if you don't know what you need from it and where you want to put it? As an important feature of a comfortable home, it's important that you consider where you want to install it for maximum efficiency. The hot water system is best located close to hot water taps. If you have multiple taps in different rooms that need hot water, then a central location would be most ideal.

When water travels for a shorter distance, the more effective the heating and energy efficiency. If you need hot water only for specific rooms in your home, then make sure the system is installed closest to them. After all, you don't want the water to travel too far because the system will have to work harder to keep it hot.

2. Establish The Right Capacity For Your Needs

The amount of hot water your household needs will depend on how many members live there because more people means more hot water consumption. It will also depend on factors like how often you use hot water in your home. For example, some people prefer to wash dishes and take a cold shower, while others want it piping hot. If you fall in the former category, you may not need too large a system, but if you use hot water for absolutely everything, then a good-sized water heating system is important. Getting a professional consultation will help you make the right choice.

3. Find Out How Much Energy Will Be Consumed

You don't want to install an electricity guzzler, so you need to ensure your hot water system is as energy efficient as possible. To prevent this from happening, you may want to check the energy efficiency rating of the hot water system and choose something with a higher rating for minimal long-term hassles. Star ratings are available to help you decide what systems are more energy efficient than others.

Make sure you consider these factors before you decide to install a hot water system in your home.
