Hello, my name is Nigel and I live in New South Wales with my partner and our three kids. I am really interested in HVAC systems. It isn't my job or anything, I just got interested in it. My friends often poke fun at me because of my unusual hobby but I don't mind. It all started when I visited my friend who is an HVAC contractor. He was working on a unit and he started to explain how the different components worked together. I was fascinated and when I got home, I took the cover off my HVAC system and cleaned it out. Since then, I have started to maintain and repair HVAC systems for friends if they can't get hold of a professional. I decided to start this blog to help others.

Evaporative cooling is ideal for use in high-temperature and low-humidity climates. Therefore, if you are planning on improving your indoor conditions while minimising your electrical bills, you should think about installing this device. Typically, an evaporative cooler draws in air from the outdoor environment. The air is passed through a damp, porous pad. As a result, the air is cooled and humidified before flowing into the house, creating a comfortable environment. Here are some practical tips for ensuring the best results when using an evaporative cooler.

Choose the Correct Cooler

You should choose the right evaporative cooler size to achieve the best climate control results in your home. The wrong choice of appliance will have detrimental effects in your house. Simply speaking, if the cooler is too small, it will not provide sufficient cooled and humidified air for your home. Also, the appliance might experience excess strain, causing it to fail prematurely.

On the other hand, a large evaporative cooler will be unnecessarily expensive to purchase. Moreover, it might draw in too much air, causing an unpleasant rise in humidity. If you are uncertain about the amount of air you need pumped in your home, you should consult a HVAC contractor.

Control the Airflow

You should ensure that there is proper air balance in your home when using an evaporative cooler. In simple terms, you should ensure that air flows out of your house to balance out the air flowing into the space through the cooler. If there is no outlet for air, your home will become more humid because of the moist air from the cooler. Ideally, you should install some ducts in the room for airflow control when the evaporative appliance is in use.

Alternatively, you should open your windows to achieve the same effect. The windows should be open slightly such that the air pressure will allow the door to close quietly. If the door in the room slams shuts, you will need to open the windows wider. If the room door does not move at all, close the windows a little more for optimal balance.

Maintain Your Cooler

You should conduct regular maintenance on your evaporative cooler. The upkeep practices will improve performance and efficiency, and the work will extend the appliance's service life. In general, you should maintain the unit according to the manufacturer's recommendations. The important tasks include cleaning the water distribution system and the reservoir. You will also need to replace the pads and check the electrical connections for optimal performance.
